Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 April 2026
The short version: Tongue Drum Online does not collect, store, or share any personal data. There are no cookies, no analytics, no tracking, and no accounts. A handful of small settings (and any recordings you explicitly save) are kept in your own browser's storage, and that data never leaves your device.
1. Who We Are
Tongue Drum Online (at tonguedrum.app) is a free, browser-based virtual steel tongue drum instrument. This Privacy Policy explains what happens — and what doesn't happen — with any data related to your use of this site.
2. Data We Collect
We collect no personal data. There is no registration form, no login, no newsletter subscription, and no payment system. We have no way of knowing who you are or that you visited.
The only information that could be considered "data" in any technical sense is summarised below:
| Data | Where it lives | Who can access it |
|---|---|---|
| App preferences and custom scales (see the storage table in the Cookie Policy for the full key list) | Your browser's localStorage |
Only you, on your device |
| Recordings you explicitly save with the Record button (up to 20) | Your browser's IndexedDB database TongueDrumRecordings |
Only you; persists across sessions until you delete them in-app or clear site data |
| Audio you play but do not record | Generated locally by the Web Audio API; held only in RAM | Only you; gone the moment the tab is closed |
That is the complete list. Nothing else is captured, and nothing is ever transmitted off your device. You can wipe all of it at any time by clearing site data for this domain in your browser settings.
3. Cookies and Tracking
Tongue Drum Online uses no cookies of any kind — neither first-party nor third-party. No tracking pixels, fingerprinting scripts, or session identifiers are set or read.
The app does use two browser storage mechanisms (which are distinct from cookies): localStorage for small preference flags and any custom scales you build, and IndexedDB for recordings you save with the in-app Record button. Both are purely for your convenience and never leave your browser. The full list of keys lives in the Cookie Policy, and you can clear all of it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this domain.
4. Analytics and Advertising
We run no analytics — no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom, no Mixpanel, no heatmaps. We have no idea how many people visit the site or what they do while they are here.
We serve no advertisements of any kind. There are no ad networks, sponsored content, or affiliate links on this site.
5. Third-Party Services
The only external resource loaded by Tongue Drum Online is the Google Fonts stylesheet, which delivers the Fredoka One and Inter typefaces used in the app's interface. When your browser requests these fonts, Google may log the request as part of its standard CDN operation (IP address, browser type, referring URL). This is standard behaviour for web font delivery.
If you prefer to avoid this, you can block Google Fonts requests using a browser extension such as uBlock Origin. The app will fall back to system fonts gracefully.
We use no other third-party services — no social media widgets, no embedded videos, no support chat, no payment processors.
6. The Web Audio API
Sound on Tongue Drum Online is generated entirely by the Web Audio API running inside your browser. The microphone is never accessed. If you press the in-app Record button, the resulting audio is captured and stored on your own device in an IndexedDB database (capped at 20 entries); it is never transmitted to us or to any third party. You can delete saved recordings from inside the app or by clearing site data.
7. Server Logs
Like any website, requests to load Tongue Drum Online are handled by a web server (Cloudflare Pages). The hosting provider may retain standard server access logs (IP addresses, request timestamps, file names requested) as part of normal CDN operation. These logs are not accessible to us for the purpose of identifying individual visitors and are subject to Cloudflare's own Privacy Policy.
8. Children's Privacy
Tongue Drum Online does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). Because we collect no data at all, the app is safe and appropriate for use by children.
9. Your Rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, or delete on request. If you would like to remove the preferences, custom scales, or saved recordings stored on your own device, simply clear the site data for tonguedrum.app in your browser settings.
10. Changes to This Policy
If we ever change how the app handles data — for example, by adding an optional feedback form — we will update this Privacy Policy and revise the "Last updated" date. We will always aim to be clear and accurate about what data is involved and why.
11. Contact
Questions about this Privacy Policy are welcome. You can reach us via the contact information on the main site at tonguedrum.app.
